types of cbd products

When you think of CBD, what first springs to mind? Perhaps it’s an oil you take with a dropper, or maybe a CBD lotion you spread on your skin. With so many different types of CBD products available and more variations on the theme emerging daily, it may be intimidating to start figuring out what might be best for you.

While the way you take CBD should be entirely unique to you and your endocannabinoid system, there are a few elements to each method of CBD delivery that may help you narrow your choices from the larger selection pool. To aid you in your quest for cannabinoids, Bluebird created a short overview and guide to the top five types of CBD products to help you frame your wellness research.

  1. CBD Oils

First up, CBD oils (or tinctures). Oils are the most common CBD product on the market due to the wide range of flavors, sizes, and strengths. Oils typically are packaged in a small colored glass bottle with a dropper. Use the dropper to administer the desired amount of oil into your mouth. Our recommended serving size is 15 drops or 0.5 mL - a graduated dropper top can be found on many products (including Bluebird’s oils) to make consistency a little easier.

Bluebird Botanicals’ CBD oils do not contain any artificial ingredients or flavors, providing a bright, natural hemp taste. Some people even mix CBD oil into their food and drinks, like green smoothies or summer salads. There are a wide range of concentrations and serving sizes across different CBD products, so it’s a best practice to start with smaller sizes and increase in small increments until you find that perfect balance for your own unique endocannabinoid system.

Bluebird’s regular strength CBD oils contain 250 milligrams of CBD per ounce, which breaks down to about 4.2 mg per serving. However, we also offer our concentrated line of CBD oils and featuring the same three blends with six times the concentration of cannabinoids. That means with every serving, you get 25 mg of CBD.

Although there are plenty of things to love about CBD oils, there are a few potentials drawbacks as well. Oils can sometimes be a bit messy and more prone to spillage on the go, especially if you’re carrying them in your backpack or purse. Many pure CBD oils also have a strong hemp or earthy flavor to them, which may not be a match for everyone’s palate. If your tongue tends to have pickier taste buds, the next option may be better for you.

  2. CBD Soft Gels

We’re talking here about CBD soft gels. For those who aren’t in love with oils, soft gels are the next best thing. Bluebird Botanicals offers two variations of CBD soft gels - Hemp Classic Soft Gels and Hemp Complete Soft Gels, which have a set 15 mg per soft gel.

Soft gels have a few big advantages over other types of CBD products. First, soft gels are as easy to take as vitamins. This option is great for those looking for a flavorless CBD experience. However, because of their standardized serving size, it can be more difficult to customize your serving sizes to exactly fit your needs.

  3. CBD Topicals

Topical CBD products include lotions, serums, salves, balms, and anything else applied to the skin. Bluebird currently offers a CBD lotion product in three varieties: Hemp Essential (great for everyday), Hemp Silk (our beauty-inclined CBD lotion), and Hemp Sport

You can use our CBD lotions as you would a non-CBD containing lotion. With products like serums, salves, and balms, typically less is more (read: you don’t need to use very much on a target area for it to be effective).

  4. CBD Isolate

Next on our list is CBD isolate. While many of the aforementioned products above - our THC-Free* CBD Oil features an isolate emulsified in MCT oil, for instance - can actually feature CBD isolate as an ingredient, we’re talking here about the isolated isolate, if you will. CBD isolate is highly purified and comes in a crystalline, powder form. It’s also flavorless, so some may find this easier to integrate into their wellness routine.

  5. CBD Flower

Yes, you can smoke CBD! Technically, it’s hemp flower you’re smoking.  While this is not everyone’s preferred method, it’s an excellent, bioavailable way to get CBD into your body and interacting with your endocannabinoid system.

Bluebird Botanicals doesn’t currently offer any smokable hemp flower products, but our go-to recommendation for quality is Tweedle Farms.

There are a few other types of CBD products available that didn’t make our list, including edibles, gel pens, CBD patches, CBD chewing gum, water-soluble, CBD drink sticks, and even CBD coffee and tea. Some of these are pretty cool but may have problems with CBD content consistency, or the reputability of the company. However, as the market develops, we expect these products to become more refined and reliable.

So, now that you have heard the top five types of CBD products, how do you figure out which type of CBD product is right for you? Armed with a cursory overview of product types, the choice is yours.

Is your topical salve available yet? I would like to try that. I know topicals are available elsewhere, but right now I only shop at Bluebird. I suppose you you will send us an email when available?
