The Detox Project is a research and certification platform that encourages transparency in the food and supplement industries on the subject of toxic chemicals. In the past several years, the organization has spearheaded several studies into the dangers of glyphosate, the world’s most used pesticide.
Bluebird Botanicals recently received its Glyphosate Residue Free certification from The Detox Project and became the first hemp company to qualify for this safety standard.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a subdivision of the World Health Organization, released a statement in 2015 announcing that glyphosate is a “probable human carcinogen.” In addition to its potential links to cancer, the study reported that “glyphosate has been detected in the blood and urine of agricultural workers, indicating absorption…” Additionally, “one study reported increases in blood markers of chromosomal damage (micronuclei) in residents of several communities after spraying of glyphosate formulations.”
Lab testing has revealed the presence of glyphosate in popular food items including Cheerios, Oreos, Ritz Crackers, and Doritos: Cool Ranch. According to The Detox Project, the most common glyphosate-based formulation used today is the weed-killer Roundup, a Monsanto product. Many farmers currently use Roundup and other similar weed-killers on their crops, which increases the risk of public exposure to glyphosate.
The Detox Project has officially certified all Bluebird Botanicals products as Glyphosate Residue Free. To become certified, products cannot contain glyphosate residues within government-recognized limits of detection (LODs). A third party ISO 17025 accredited laboratory is responsible for testing all products submitted for certification.
Since our beginning, Bluebird Botanicals has always maintained an unwavering commitment to quality and transparency. We demonstrate this commitment by providing extensive third-party laboratory testing on every single product. All tests are publicly available on our website through our batch database. These tests include information about the potency of each product as well as any pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, mycotoxins, and microbiology results.
