What do you find most challenging about working in the cannabis/hemp industry?
The most challenging aspect of working in the cannabis/hemp industry is the overall level of misinformation about hemp and cannabis. We receive frequent calls from customers who have outdated ways of thinking about hemp and cannabis in general. This can be challenging because although many are eager to learn, it can be tough to break through patterns of thinking that are the result of years of inaccurate and limited information.
What’s your favorite story or memory from your time at Bluebird?
My favorite memory at Bluebird was during my first couple of months here when the production team in the back was running behind on packaging and requested for “all hands on deck” from the office. We had one hour to finish an unfathomable amount of packages that still needed to be assembled before our mail carrier came back. Without skipping a beat, the entire office zipped to the back and got to work. We pumped up the music and put our minds together, committed towards the common goal of finishing all the packages before USPS came back for its final pick up (whether we finished the rest of the packages or not). After an hour of focus and dedication, we ended up finishing with mere seconds to spare before our mail carrier arrived for the final pick up. It dawned on me that we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish such a task if we hadn’t all come together to work in harmony.
I still remember the feeling as we finished and how happy we all were that we had conquered what seemed to be an impossible goal. Even our mail carrier hardly believed that we accomplished such a feat. This created an unshakeable sense of teamwork and made me realize how powerful the Bluebird tribe was. Being a fairly new employee at the time, I recognized an incredible comradery within the culture that made me feel part of something much bigger than myself. To this day, I hold this memory very dear to my heart as it was the first moment I realized how special it was to be a part of the Bluebird family.
What is a common misconception about the cannabis/hemp industry that you’ve come across in your work?
A common misconception that I come across in the hemp industry is that CBD and THC are the only cannabinoids that matter. I have learned since working in the industry that while CBD and THC get the most hype, having a whole plant hemp extract provides a full spectrum of additional cannabinoids as well as terpenes that work synergistically with one another. Many people assume that CBD alone is what they need and often overlook the other cannabinoids present in hemp. As the industry progresses, I look forward to it becoming more common knowledge that the whole plant has something to offer!
