Bluebird Botanicals has always adhered to the highest standards of quality assurance and continues to make regulatory compliance our top priority in order to ensure our customers can confidently trust our products.
Because of that, we wanted to let you know that in order to comply with the addition of ∆9-THC to California’s Proposition 65 list, we recently added this new Proposition 65 statement to our product labels:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Δ9-THC, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. See: www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
If you see the Prop 65 warning on our labels, you might be wondering if the Bluebird Botanicals product you purchased is safe. The short answer is yes, our products are still safe. And prior to being required by law to add this statement to our label, we’ve included a similar statement on our labels to comply with regulations: Do not use if pregnant, nursing or under 18 years of age. Consult your healthcare provider if you are using any prescription medications or have a medical condition. Discontinue use if unusual symptoms occur.
The Proposition 65 warning is required by the state of California to warn consumers about exposure to ingredients that may cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm, and in some cases, regardless of the level of those ingredients in products. While the presence of a Prop 65 warning does not mean that a product is unsafe for its intended use, the law requires that we warn consumers about the potential for risk.
Because ∆9-THC was added to California’s Proposition 65 list, we are now legally required to add this statement to our labels because of the small amount of THC present in our full-spectrum hemp extracts, which is no more than 0.3% by dry weight.
Since the introduction of Prop 65 label warnings, it has caused a fair amount of confusion, fear, and concern. This new label may raise alarm about the safety and quality of our products, but please be assured that nothing about our ingredient sourcing or manufacturing process has changed.
In fact, we’ve already been following California’s Proposition 65 guidelines for acceptable contaminant levels for years. These guidelines are some of the strictest in the country, and we’ve abided by their standards during our ingredient sourcing and testing process. And even though THC has now been added to the Prop 65 list, our manufacturing process has not changed.
